Letter updating Seismic upgrades at Lake Chabot Dam

004 003Greetings,

I am writing with a New Year 2017 update on the progress of the Chabot Dam Seismic Upgrade Project. While the Chabot Dam will be able to withstand major earthquakes, seismic upgrades are important to minimize the amount of rehabilitation that would be required if one occurred.

EBMUD has completed the cement deep soil mixing work at the toe of the dam. Now, we are working on dam face restoration and removal of the outlet tower. The City of San Leandro Chabot Park off of Estudillo Avenue and portions of the West Shore Trail in Lake Chabot Regional Park will remain closed until construction ends in the summer of this year.

You may also have noticed that San Leandro Creek has seen increased flows due to releases from Lake Chabot during this rainy winter. EBMUD controls these releases to ensure public safety. We release more water in between storms, when creeks have receded and can absorb excess runoff.
