Hello all,

I have the distinct pleasure to announce my pending retirement and the naming of our new Watershed Awareness Coordinator, Ann Graham.

First, I’d like to thank you for your assistance, support and hard work during my 12-year tenure with the Friends. I have learned much and enjoyed so many projects with you. We have cleaned tons of trash from the creek, restored a large swath of creekside riparian area at Chabot Park. We’ve spoken to numerous groups and associations, held large (& not so large) events. We’ve had many admired speakers and demonstrated scientific equipment. With your support I attended classes and completed my California Naturalist credential. We have educated thousands of local students with hands-on experiments in and around the creek. We’ve even witnessed the return of the near extinct river otter and a run of Chinook salmon.

I will remain with the Friends in a new capacity, as Board Treasurer. This role has been vacant for a few years now and I’m happy to assist where I’m needed. So, where I’m not going far, my role has changed. I’m really excited to begin my retirement where I hope to travel, work in my garden, read, volunteer for worthy causes like FSLC, continue my yoga practice and relax. You can now reach me at Slevenson@sonic.net.

I’m proud to introduce to you our new Coordinator Ann Graham. Ann is a Bay Area native, and San Leandro resident with a background in biology. She has 15 years’ experience as a Naturalist at the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center, including 9 years as Senior Naturalist. Ann spent much of that time providing environmental education in the form of scientific field trips to the marsh area and the Bay. She is an expert birder; has worked banding birds at the Manomet Center for Conservation Science in Cape Cod, the Institute for Bird Populations in North Carolina, Ventana Wildlife Society Bird Banding Lab in Big Sur, and Ann was a wildlife biology intern for the Student Conservation Association on the Channel Islands in San Clemente, Ca.

We believe Ann will seamlessly transition to this new position. The Friends are thrilled to have her. For now, you can reach Ann at: agraham1011@yahoo.com or our new address:
